Inspired by their participation in the Eastside Queer Stories 2016 at the Little Casa in Boyle Heights, CA, MJ Brown aka Miss Barbie Q (Leave It on the Floor, Choosing Us*, Eastside Queer Stories) and Cinnamon Rivera (Eastside Queer Stories 2016) decided to create, RealQueerStories. A program where LGBTNIQA artists, especially those who wouldn’t share their stories, are encouraged to put life to paper to the stage.

The mission statement of RealQueerStories is develop a platform to help LGBTNIQA artists of all backgrounds to develop their stories into performance art. Through workshops, plays, panels and events, RealQueerStories provides a safe space for LGBTNIQA artists to go from concept to writing to seeing the work put into performance art and produced.

Projects underway:

(1) SpeakOUT Los Angeles: A spoken word, storytelling and poetry night for the LGBTQIA community in collaboration with the Q Youth Foundation. Held at Redline DTLA (131 E 6th St) on the last Wed of the month with different themes every month.

(2) Untitled 2017 Drag Project as part of the grant from the One City One pride grant to be presented at the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival
