AKA Sigma Omega Chapter

The inspiration and dedication that inspired the founders of the Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated was imparted by six young women in Cincinnati, Ohio. Our charter members included Anne Brummitt-Robinson, Talladega College 1922, Margaret Speaks-Clarke, Wittenberg College 1924, Breta Walker-Grannum, University of Cincinnati 1924, Jewell Smith-Jackson, Fisk University 1920, Viola Lockley-Grayson, Fisk University 1921 and Helen Walker-King, University of Cincinnati 1921. Their determination to dedicate themselves to the task of service to all mankind laid the cornerstones for the newly organized chapter, Sigma Omega, chartered on December 18, 1924.

It has been the history of Sigma Omega to remain relevant and responsive to the changing patterns in society. Our chapter is dedicated to serving our community through our international program targets.

During periods of change Sigma Omega Chapter has held high their torch by maintaining the ideals of our founders, the group of women who met together on the campus of Howard University in 1908 and dedicated themselves to the task of “Service to All Mankind”.

The success of Sigma Omega Chapter is driven by the warm, sisterly bond that is kept strong through reclamation and retention activities. We invite any member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated who is interested in taking part in with Sigma Omega Chapter to join us.
