Akram Ismail

A resident of the Leesburg, Florida, area, Dr. Akram Ismail is a board-certified gastroenterologist with nearly two decades of professional experience. Dr. Ismail began his career in Cairo, Egypt, where he served his first medical internship at Ain Shams University Hospitals. In 1983, he completed his rotating internship and began a residency in internal medicine at EL-Mataria Teaching Hospital, also in Cairo. Upon completing his residency, and after a brief appointment in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Dr. Akram Ismail moved to the New York area and completed his second internship and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. From 1991 through 1993, Dr. Ismail remained with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he completed a fellowship in digestive diseases.

Upon completing his fellowship in 1993, Dr. Akram Ismail became President of Professional Gastroenterology & Surgery Associates (PGSA), a private practice with several Florida-based medical providers specializing in digestive conditions. In 1995, Dr. Ismail took on an additional role, accepting the position of Medical Director of Lake Surgery & Endoscopy Center in Leesburg, Florida. Six years later, he assumed yet another role as Medical Director of Endosurg Outpatient Center, LLC, a Leesburg surgical center.

Beyond his private practice, in 2003, Dr. Akram Ismail began serving as Chief of Internal Medicine for both the Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Medical Center. Dr. Ismail has served as a clinical instructor at several academic institutions and is a member of various medical societies, including the Florida Gastroenterologic Society, American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Akram Ismail currently lives in Leesburg, Florida, and enjoys running, water skiing, and other outdoor activities.
