Alirio Valbuena

Possessing more than two decades of experience in academia, Alirio Valbuena joined Bowie State as CIO/Vice President in 2006. In this position, Valbuena maintains responsibility for all aspects of the college's technology infrastructure, including information systems. In recognition of his efforts, Valbuena received accolades as a Grant Producer from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in 2009. Committed to improving educational opportunities for students throughout the state, Alirio Valbuena contributes to the University System of Maryland and the Maryland Research and Education Network, as well as serving on the board of directors for the Maryland Education Enterprise Consortium. He stays current with developments in the field through his memberships with the Association for Institutional Research, EDUCAUSE, and the American Statistical Association. Aside from his extensive professional experience, Alirio Valbuena holds a Doctor of Higher Education and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Penn State’s Smeal College, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Kansas. Prior to his work at Bowie State University, Alirio Valbuena spent three years as the Vice President of Information Technology at the College of Southern Nevada. During this time, he assisted both the faculty and students with various aspects of academic computing, including learning management and instructional systems design. Valbuena previously functioned in similar capacities with New Jersey City University and Franciscan University.
