Barbara Gordon

The Executive Director, Chief Executive Officer, and President of the Interstitial Cystitis Association, Barbara Gordon possesses more than 30 years of experience in health communications, working with the National Institutes of Health, Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Human Resources Service Administration, and the Department of Defense. Since 2008, Ms. Gordon has directed and managed research, educational initiatives, and advocacy for the Interstitial Cystitis Association, based in Rockville, Maryland. Interstitial Cystitis Association maintains relationships with several federal offices, the media, and community groups around the country, working to keep its diverse base of constituents informed about scientific, regulatory, and legislative developments. In addition to her role at the Interstitial Cystitis Association, Barbara Gordon previously consulted with HealthComm Solutions, where she offered public affairs and management advice for projects focusing on medical education and information. During her tenure as a consultant, Barbara Gordon wrote and edited articles for Medco Forum, developed web content and online tools for an obesity prevention campaign, compiled several chapters of a guide to women's health, and written meeting summaries for National Institutes of Health conferences. Prior to her professional pursuits, Barbara Gordon attended The Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C., where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Furthering her education, Barbara Gordon enrolled at Simmons College in Boston, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition with distinction. In addition to her Bachelor’s degrees, Ms. Gordon holds a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Barbara Gordon also completed a Dietetic Internship with the Maryland Department of Health and the Nonprofit Executive Management Program at Harvard University. After completing her education, Barbara Gordon worked for years in the private sector before moving to the nonprofit sector to oversee the Interstitial Cystitis Association in 2008. As the Executive Director of the Interstitial Cystitis Association, Barbara Gordon has transformed the organization from a small start-up advocacy organization to a professional nonprofit organization.
