Byron Robert Lerner

Roslyn, NY

Byron Robert Lerner has coached basketball for more than two decades for a number of different organizations, and he has also translated his love of the sport into various charitable contributions to his community. One interesting fact about Mr. Lerner is that his wife's grandfather, Maxwell Ohlman, served as the founder and first President of the American Philatelic Society, an organization consisting of 35,000 members from more than 110 countries that offers educational opportunities to stamp collectors and provides them resources to enhance their special collections. Byron Robert Lerner’s grandfather-in-law also corresponded with Franklin Delano Roosevelt and was a legend in the field of philately.

Byron Robert Lerner has maintained involvement in charity work throughout his life, and he incorporates his love of basketball into many of those pursuits. He coached teams for the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, Roslyn Booster Basketball Club, Inc., and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) of the USA, Inc., an organization that maintains 33 national committees to organize a wide range of sports activities and related programs. In addition to his charity work involving the game, Mr. Lerner supports other organizations, including the private Orthodox Jewish K-12 school Yeshiva Mesivta Arugath Habosem of Brooklyn, New York; the Vietnam Veterans of America, and The ALS Association. He generously donates to the Samuel Field Y, a northeast Queens and western Nassau-based outfit that provides the community with a number of events and celebrations. Byron Robert Lerner has contributed to the Martin Luther King Scholarship at Roslyn High School, supported Bob Graham of the Democratic party, and helped organizations that provide assistance to children and people with breast cancer. A staunch supporter of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), he coached basketball for the group from 1982 to 1986.
