Carol Zernial Wellmed

Carol Zernial, who possesses considerable expertise handling issues affecting elderly individuals, currently lends her talents to San Antonio-based WellMed Medical Management, where she acts as Vice President of Community Relations. In addition, Zernial heads the WellMed Charitable Foundation, a not-for-profit group that provides support and advocacy for seniors and caregivers. Carol Zernial brings to her roles, which she has held since 2009, more than 20 years of experience in her field, as well as several professional recognitions.

Before joining WellMed, Carol Zernial spent several years with the Bexar Area Agency on Aging through the Alamo Area Council of Governments. In her capacity as Director, she oversaw federal programs for the elderly in Bexar County that every year catered to more than 15,000 older persons and those taking care of them. In addition, she secured more than $1.6 million in grants for initiatives designed to prevent diabetes and promote mobility and activity. Moreover, Zernial was active in the state association, serving as Vice President for the Texas Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and leading the Texas Falls Prevention Coalition as well.

Carol Zernial also enjoyed a successful tenure as the Executive Director of Elderco, a consulting firm with offices in Philadelphia; San Antonio; and Washington, D.C. Among other duties, she conducted program evaluations and provided training, ensuring the effective implementation of social services and senior housing initiatives. At Elderco, she counted among her clients the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and the National Center on Elder Abuse. Earlier in her career, Carol Zernial held positions with organizations such as Riverside County Office on Aging and the Life Management Center of Northwest Florida.
