Chuck Horning

Orange County, CA

A recognized environmentalist and successful businessman, Chuck Horning has devoted much of his time to improving the natural conditions of his 12,000-plus acres of ranch land in California and Hawaii. Every year, Chuck Horning plants over 1,000 trees on his land, including cedars, ponderosa pines, black oaks, valley oaks, and coconut and golden bamboo plants in Hawaii. As well, Chuck Horning has initiated a variety of projects to recondition the land in order to return it to its former state, including restorations of stream banks which have been damaged, range improvements, the reduction of erosion-causing practices, and the preservation and protection of such historic structures as mines, roads, and other artifacts that may be present on his ranch land.

Chuck Horning continues to compile information in his father’s footsteps, whose large samplings of soil initially suggested a correlation between the nutrition deficiency in soil resulting from modern agricultural practices and the spread of ailments in the United States and internationally. As well, Chuck Horning's efforts to improve the general eco-friendliness of his Colorado ski and golf facility and resort were rewarded by Audubon International, which named the Telluride Golf Club a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.”

Chuck Horning is known as the majority owner of Telluride Ski & Golf Resort, called Telski, one of Colorado's premier vacation destinations. After taking control of the property in 2003, Chuck Horning has implemented a variety of major changes designed to improve both business and sustainability practices at Telluride Ski & Golf Resort. Chuck Horning is founder and Chairman of the Newport Beach, California, company Newport Federal and has been since 1970. Chuck Horning has worked to secure and cultivate properties in a variety of areas, including pharmaceutical facilities, ranches, hospitality institutions, hotels, resorts, and commercial real estate, as well.
