# ABOUT ME:
As a teenager, I remember managing to finagle together a mashable mix of nerdiness, tech-inquisitiveness, and a burning need to fit-in, by getting involved in my school's student-led Drama Society Troupe. Where there was a set to put together, a sound board to run, or a lighting plan to design, props to manage, flyers to post, internet announcements to publish, or tickets to sell, I was there.
And then, probably having spent far too much time around the auditorium, I was offered my first Stage Manager role. I remember asking our Director/Staff Advisor about what he really needed me to do and getting this reply: “As a Stage Manager, if you do everything perfectly, and it all goes off without a hitch, the audience should never know you exist”.
I went on to stage manage 3 Sears Ontario Drama Festival Shows, 2 Hart House Performances, 1 Musical, and a number of community productions, and learned to enjoy the adrenaline rush of troubleshooting at the 11th hour, the introspective quietness of observing from the back row, the personal touch of getting to know the amazing and quirky of every colleague, the excitement of sitting cross-legged and holding my breath as I watched a show roll live from the darkness of stage left, and the 'high' of vicariously delighting in each little success of every cast and crew member; my team!
I like sharing this bit of experience, because it taught me that "minding the little things about people makes it possible for the show to go on" ... and I have allowed it to be a guiding principle in everything I have done since ...
