Gary Owen

Full disclosure: Gary Owen's a pen name. I'm a former US Army Infantry and Civil Affairs officer with two tours in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, and I've been in Afghanistan as a civilian development worker since 2009.

I'm a self-proclaimed "idealist with a mortgage," and I like to think I've carved out a niche for myself as a purveyor of snark and (I hope) the kind of commentary that educates as well as entertains.

My home on the web is the blog, "Sunny in Kabul." If you're looking for something less snarky, sometimes I manage to do that for the Afghan Analysts Network or Vice News.

My wife and I call Texas home, where we live with a couple of retired racing greyhounds and three overly needy cats.
