Jay Butan DVM

Jay Butan, DVM, owns and operates Canal Animal Hospital, a veterinary medicine practice located in Lake Worth, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Cornell in 1980 and subsequently enrolled at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. As a student at Tufts, Jay Butan took part in the Committee on Animal Welfare.

Jay Butan, DVM, began gaining experience immediately after graduation with a job at the Professional Veterinary Hospitals of America, Inc., located in Southfield, Michigan, as the Hospital Director and the Chief of Staff. As he fulfilled these duties, Jay Butan passed the requirements for the title of Veterinarian from the Florida Department of Business Professional Regulation. Since 1989, Jay Butan, DVM, has worked at high own practice, Canal Animal Hospital, which offers an extensive array of services. His clinic provides services such as bathing, behavioral medicine, boarding, day care, pain management endoscopy, immunization, and prescriptions.

His work in the field of veterinary science also extends to his role as a Clinical Investigator for various pharmaceutical companies. In addition to his work as a veterinarian, Jay Butan, DVM, maintains an assortment of personal interests, ranging from photography and creative writing to bicycling and fencing. This athletic talent led Jay Butan, DVM, to a spot on the United States Olympic Development Squad and a national rank of 16th in Men’s Saber fencing. In 2002, 2004, and 2009, Jay Butan, DVM, took part in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race as a member of the veterinary staff.
