Throughout her career in social work, Dr. Jill LaMorie has become known as an expert in the field of thanatology and family support following military deaths. Recently an invited speaker at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Military Survivor Seminar in May of 2014, she also presented workshops and lectures at the TAPS National Suicide Survivor Seminar, the Department of Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention Conference, and the Association for Death Education and Counseling Annual Conference, among others. Dr. Jill LaMorie teaches postvention suicide support strategies as well as skills for working with survivors of violent death or extended illness.

Dr. Jill Harrington-LaMorie began her career after graduating from the Catholic University of America with a bachelor of arts in psychology and a master of social work from Adelphi University. In 2001, shortly after receiving her master’s degree, she presented a workshop on the role of mental health care workers in addressing secondary trauma following the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Dr. Jill Harrington-LaMorie has since earned a doctor of social work at the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed a dissertation on peer support and distress interventions for survivors of military suicide. Also the author of numerous book chapters on grief and survivorship, she remains current in her field as an active member of such professional organizations as the American Association of Suicidology and the Association for Death Education & Counseling.
