Loren Caira

Loren Caira, M.D., currently works as a family practitioner and emergency care doctor at Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre, located in the under-serviced community of Burns Lake, British Columbia. Prior to moving to Burns Lake, Dr. Caira practiced medicine in Southern California, and before that in the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Columbia, and South Africa. Dr. Caira also maintains a history of teaching emergency medicine, including to paramedics of Monterey Park, California, and as a member of Orange County's Regional Paramedic Advisory Committee.

Prior to launching his career, Loren Caira, M.D., earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and his medical degree from UBC's Faculty of Medicine, where he received a Louis Lipsey Toohill Scholarship for academic distinction. Upon completing his M.D., Dr. Caira conducted clinical clerkships at South Africa's G. J. Crookes Hospital and King Edward VIII Hospital, and he performed a rotating internship at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia. He received his physician's license from the Medical Council of Canada in 1983.

Before relocating to Burns Lake, Loren Caira, M.D., worked at several hospitals in Southern California. He served as the Director of Emergency Services for both the Greater El Monte Community Hospital and the Tustin Hospital and Medical Center. From 1995 to 2011, Dr. Caira practiced emergency medicine at the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center, a busy Level 3 trauma facility with a pediatric emergency care unit, a thrombotic stroke center, obstetrics division, and other departments. Currently, at Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre, Dr. Caira contributes to a modern, full-service facility offering emergency, palliative, and acute care; disease management; and mental health and addictions outreach and support.
