Marcus "Poke" Miles
Marcus "Poke" Miles
Marcus Miles aka Poke, is a funny man with raw and aggressive sense of humor. Poke’s comedic style can only be described as rapid fire comedy without any censors. His charismatic approach to any subject has been well received by audiences of any ethnic background. Poke has no filter and conveys his message with descriptive imagery during his comedic set. Whether the topic is about women, social issues, or something as simple as a shopping experience, he approaches it with the same amount of exuberance and excitement! When Poke exits the stage, Marcus Miles comes back to life. Born and raised in Richmond, California, Marcus Miles grew up in a traditional African American middle class working family. The streets of Richmond were rough and rugged territory for anyone to grow up in, yet Marcus’s family made sure to give him the type of structure and values that would deter him from falling into the street life. Through prayer and discipline, Marcus grew into a hardworking and respectable man who strives to live a healthy life style. Working at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center as a supervisor; Marcus exercises his comedic routine with cancer patients who need an escape through laughter. It’s also a great stress relief for him while dealing with life and death issues at work. Marcus decided comedy was his calling after realizing his innate ability to bring laughter to others and shortly after gave birth to Poke. Prior comedic legends such as Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor confirmed his decision to enter the comedy realm. He wanted to bring the same type of raw comedy as his icons have, yet put his unique spin to it. Poke has performed at the following venues: Maxwell’s Lounge, The Air Lounge, Dorsey’s Locker, and Karibean City all in Oakland, CA. He has also performed at The 821 Lounge in Hayward, CA, The Bee Hive and The Veterans’ Hall in Richmond, CA, Bruno’s and The Purple Onion in San Francisco, CA. Also, Poke has been requested to perform at out of state venues such as The Hidden House in Phoenix, AZ and The Dallas Comedy House, Hyenas Comedy Club, and the 972 Lounge all in Dallas, TX. With much more out of state venues to come, a comedy tour throughout the United States is sure to follow.
