Through translation and interpreting, I have been able to combine the best of two worlds. When translating, I can focus on detail, appreciate how rich the Spanish and English language are, grasp their differences and become imbued with the jargons and specificities of different fields. When interpreting, I can feel the rush for immediate reaction; enjoy the swing of the spoken word, and the dynamics of working with individuals coming from different arenas and backgrounds. However, I have come to learn that despite the different abilities and preparation that translation and interpreting call for, they both rest on the same basic principles: conveying the message with accuracy, respecting its issuer's style and intention, and surpassing any cultural barriers that could prevent it from reaching the other end as desired. Abiding by these principles means that a challenge always lies ahead.
