Mark Muir

Encinitas, CA

A public servant of over 35 years, Mark A. Muir is a Council Member for the City Council of the City of Encinitas and is currently running for reelection. A committed government advocate, he has served the City of Encinitas for decades. He is also a recently appointed Board Member to the Encinitas Wastewater Authority and San Elijo Joint Powers Authority, as well as a Board Member of the San Diego North Economic Development Council. Mark Muir supports local agencies that service their communities, and he hopes to establish policies that will improve the city’s capital and financial plans. Mark Muir, a native of San Diego, California, served as a Fire Fighter before his election to the city council. He acted as the Fire Chief of the Encinitas, Solano Beach and Del Mar fire departments in his latter years on the force. Mark Muir’s commitment to the cooperation of the departments helped save over $1 million in taxes and improved the fire services throughout North County. The effort was recognized by the San Diego Taxpayers Association, which awarded him the 2010 Regional Golden Watchdog Award. Mark Muir served on the Olivenhain Municipal Water District’s Board of Directors from 2001 to 2011. He is committed to continuing his work to further the beneficial reuse of the water in the San Diego area, as well as adopt progressive goals and objectives that will highlight the priorities of public services and approve much needed programs for the improvement of Encinitas. Mark Muir is currently working to earn his Master’s degree in Public Administration at San Diego State University. He resides in Encinitas with his son and wife, Maureen, who serves on the Board of Trustees of the Encinitas Union School District.
