As the managing editor of The Brandon Sun, I work with a team of talented reporters, photographers and editors to grind out the news from our editorial abode, the Sungeon.

The Sungeon is the nickname that I coined for the basement floor of the Sun building, here at 501 Rosser Avenue.

I have spent the better part of 17 years within the Sungeon walls, first as a military, energy and agriculture reporter, then in a few junior editorial roles, and more recently in my capacity as the managing editor.

Before that I spent two years working as an English teacher and freelance journalist/photographer in Japan.

Prior to Japan, I also backpacked my way across the Middle East for seven months on a research and fact-finding tour on behalf of the Canadian Agassiz Institute for Conflict Studies, and senior scholar Peter St. John.

As the Sun's main editorial writer, needless to say I've got opinions. Call me late at night if you'd like to hear a few choice ones. Otherwise, try my Twitter handle, @MattGoerzen, or contact me at [email protected].
