Steven Pound

Due to the redistricting confusion, I am suspending my campaign efforts. My apologies to those who supported my run even before it got started. Thanks to all of you that gave me words of encouragement and support.
I look forward to running in the next election cycle, once it's been decided what district I reside in.

Concerned Constituents of Memphis Manifest

This is a living document that I drafted. The basic idea is to promote
responsible and progressive ideas while still allowing a diverse array
of platforms.

1. RACISM
Racism in politics is the ultimate cowardice. It is our responsibility
as citizens to put an immediate end to racism and race-baiting in
our politics.

2. UNEMPLOYMENT
Unemployment in Memphis is on the rise. The warehouse districts are emptying by the month. We must do all we can to present Memphis as a national hub of commerce.

3. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
We need to spend more responsibly and attract businesses that bring money in to the city so as not to place the burden solely on the property owners.

4. RECREATION
A healthy city must be in good relation with our bodies and each other. We need to build more common areas, i.e. dog parks, skate parks, etc. We must also insure that we are improving our current common areas. We also need more youth sport programs.

5. ARTS
At the city level, we take great pride in our musical and artistic heritage; however, we rarely give back. We need to sponsor the arts and music. We also need to sponsor venues for these outlets. We should do more to help projects like the Overton Shell and local art festivals.

6. EDUCATION
Our future is being written inside of every school in the city. It is vital that we give teachers and students the tools to overcome the obstacles they face. An underfunded school is absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable.

7. SAFETY
Our police force has come into the present with the tools they have been given the past 5 years or so. We must continue this trend to ensure that Memphis is a safe city. From Hickory Hill to Frayser, we must continue to fight for our citizens' safety and peace of mind.
