Located in northwestern Virginia and affiliated with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, the Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency Program provides a well-rounded and award-winning three-year medical program. Furnishing training at both Winchester Medical Center, a 445-bed medical facility, and Warren Memorial Hospital, a 76-bed facility, the program gives participants work experience in environments ranging from a nursing home to a Level II Trauma Center. With this degree of well-rounded medical experience, graduates of the Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency Program gain the ability to work in major hospitals, small-town practices, and rural locations.

When it comes to academics, the program’s residents score above the national averages in their training exams year after year. In terms of practical experience, the program includes regular teaching rounds, lectures, morning reports, and clinic experience. The Family Practice Residency is the only residency based at the hospitals, ensuring there is no other resident competing for the attention of teaching staff. During rotations, residents work in a wide range of departments, such as orthopedics, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Medicine, General Surgery, subspecialties, and NICU and intensive care units.
