Sander Rabin

Sander Rabin has represented corporations, universities and individual inventors during his career as a patent attorney. With experience practicing medicine as well as law, Sander Rabin is uniquely qualified to protect the intellectual property interests of individual and small-group physician-inventors.

Since 2005, Sander Rabin has counseled clients in patent applications and prosecutions that span the globe. Adept at analyzing and mapping patent portfolios, Dr. Rabin has also conducted patent due diligence investigations related to venture capital funding and acquisitions. More recently, e-commerce clients have relied on his advice on copyright and patent law pertaining to alternative medicine, sports medicine, fitness and wellness education disseminated on the Internet.

Sander Rabin’s education and training span the fields of nuclear engineering, law, and medicine. After earning a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School, he spent the early part of his professional life as a litigator in private practice. In 1980, he returned to school, pursuing a medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Afterwards, Dr. Rabin completed a fellowship and residency in ophthalmology and accepted the position of Physician-Manager of Eye Care Services at Community Health Plan, a staff model HMO.

In 2000, he shifted his focus back to law, teaching at the Albany Law School and then practicing patent law with two New York-area law firms before launching his own practice. Apart from his medical and legal credentials, Sander Rabin earned a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering and Science early in his career.

In addition, he has authored two medical textbooks, Medical Malpractice in Ophthalmology Cases and Managed Care Law and Litigation. He also wrote the syllabus “DNAlaw: A Casebook on Genetics,” for a seminar on law and genetics that he taught at the Albany Law School.
