Sherif El-Refai, who possesses a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy, has held a number of research and volunteer positions throughout the course of his academic career. Currently, Mr. El-Refai is enrolled at the University of Florida Hough Graduate School of Business, where he is pursuing a Master of Business Administration. Additionally, Sherif El-Refai holds certification in pharmacy-based immunization delivery; basic life support; and advanced cardiac life support, anticoagulation, hypertension and lipids, and diabetes.

Proficient in English, Spanish, and Arabic, Sherif El-Refai participated in a medical mission to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 2009. Out of 60 volunteers, he was selected for the 12-member team that represented the inaugural pharmacy student contingent. Mr. El-Refai and his team distributed school supplies, toys, clothes, food, and medical supplies and treated 1,700 patients.

In 2011, Mr. El-Refai completed research for Via Oncology Pathways, a business dedicated to maintaining evidence-based, continually updated algorithms for malignant hematology patient and common oncology presentations. In this position, he analyzed renal cell carcinoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma treatment pathways.

In 2012, Mr. El-Refai undertook research at the Center for Pharmacogenomics, in its Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research. He worked closely with Julie Johnson to coordinate the clinical service application of significant pharmacogenomics advancements that came as a result of a $1.6 million National Institutes of Health grant. Through this research, he developed a self-sustainable model for the center’s clinical pharmacogenomics service.

Sherif El-Refai holds membership to the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. He formerly belonged to the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students.
