Stefani Carter

Prior to launching a successful career as a lawyer and Texas State Representative, Stefani Carter received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and a Bachelor of Journalism in News and Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). Carter excelled in her studies during her time as an undergraduate, garnering the Award for Superior Intellectual Achievement. She subsequently graduated magna cum laude with honors as a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. After graduating from UT Austin, she went on to pursue a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. Carter completed both degrees in 2005.

As a law student at Harvard, Stefani Carter served as a Clerk with Vinson & Elkins, a law firm with national and international offices. After earning her J.D., Carter joined Vinson & Elkins as an Associate in the Dallas office. Stefani Carter spent two years as an Associate before accepting a role as a prosecutor with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office in McKinney, Texas. She later joined the law firm of Sayles Werbner in Dallas as an Associate. She has her own private practice today.

In addition, Stefani Carter has pursued a longtime interest in politics, serving as a volunteer and political organizer for several Republican campaigns in Texas. She previously undertook a number of political roles, including a position as an Elected Delegate to the Texas Republican Straw Poll and the Texas Republican State Convention. Today, Stefani Carter functions as a Texas State Representative in House District 102 that includes the northernmost areas of Dallas, Richardson, Lake Highlands, and Garland. In June 2011, Carter was awarded an Honorable Mention for Top Performers in Freshmen Class by Capitol Inside’s “Best of the Legislature” List. Carter also served with the Texas State Board for Educator Certification as Board Member, a six-year appointment he received from Texas Governor Rick Perry.
