Suzanne Ford Carafano

Costa Mesa, CA

For several years, Suzanne Ford Carafano has worked as the founder and owner of companies such as Spanish Moss and American Gold. As the Art Director and primary designer of the Spanish Moss collection, she helps to produce and sell a wide variety of vintage items and pieces from artisan designers. Unlike many one-stop shops that cater to the average customer, Spanish Moss represents a thoughtfully assembled collection of pieces that reflect the vision and artistic ideals of the company's founding members. Spanish Moss has earned critical praise from a number of respected fashion publications, including Marie Claire, Vogue UK, Harper's Bazaar, Foam Magazine, NYLON, Glamour, and Refinery29.

Aside from her work with Spanish Moss, Carafano founded and serves as Chief Designer of American Gold. A design company based in Southern California, American Gold creates a uniquely American feel by using glamorous elements from old world styles. From the quaint elegance of Old California to the mystical deserts of New Mexico, American Gold borrows from a variety of styles and designs pieces that transcend the ever-changing fashions of today. Above all, she and her fellow founding members ensure that all items in the collection reflect their personal interests and artistic styles.

In her leisure time, Suzanne Ford Carafano enjoys reading, writing, taking photographs, and designing new pieces for her collections. In particular, she draws her artistic inspiration from Southern Gothic authors, folk art, and French films of the 1960s. Carafano also contributes to charities such as the Gram Parsons Foundation, which provides rehabilitation services for artists with addictions to drugs and alcohol. Additionally, Carafano supports the efforts of the International Justice Mission and World Vision.
