Tammie Williams

Tammie is a humble, driven woman with no room for procrastination. She uses her God given talents, innovation, and voice to develop skills as a progressive community organizer who advocates for our most vulnerable populations through legislation and policy. Tammie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Community & Human Services from SUNY Empire State College. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. It is her personal mission to continue the work of social activists that came before her. As a progressive community organizer, she works to bring people together through education, understanding, awareness, and acceptance in order to further the well-being of individuals and communities. Tammie’s commitment of social justice and community organizing is reflected in her life’s’ work through volunteerism. Tammie volunteers as an outreach parent for the Sewanhaka- Elmont- Floral Park-Bellerose Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) in the Southwest section of Nassau County. Advocating for children and adolescents with limited abilities is not only a passion for Tammie, but is a selfless act being that her son is diagnosed with Sickle Cell and Autism. She also volunteers as the project director for the Girls (Providing Resources for Improvement Dignity and Empowerment) PRIDE Project, which supports and encourages education, job training, civic engagement, poverty alleviation, and economic development to girls and women of color from underserved communities including the promotion of equal access to full employment and decent work to alleviate the cycle of poverty, social, and economic disparities. In July 2013, Tammie was elected to the Elmont Memorial Public Library Board of Trustees. As a board trustee, her goal is to bring new and innovated programs and resources for parents caring for children with special needs. She states, “It’s important for all children to feel included in every activity in the community”. When she is not directing the Girls PRIDE Project, being an active SEPTA parent member, or library board trustee member, Tammie mobilizes young adults to get involved in fair redistricting with the League of Women Voters.
