An experienced military leader and security management professional, Themie Karavites graduated with a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of South Carolina before beginning Marine Corps officer leadership training at The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. After completing the Marine Corps Infantry Officer’s Course (IOC) in 1994, he served as a Marine Corps officer at Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. Themie Karavites later served as a company executive officer and commander. Upon completion of his tour in Hawaii, he was assigned as the Officer Selection Officer in Richmond, VA where here serve until January 1, 1999. Upon completion of his tour in Richmond, he was discharged from the Marine Corps and began his current career as a special agent with the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS).

Over the past 16 years as a special agent, Themistocles Karavites has completed six overseas tours in Iraq, Angola, Afghanistan, Montenegro, Greece and Afghanistan. He has served in the capacity of a Regional Security Officer (RSO) and an Assistant Regional Security Officer (ARSO), and has been a representative at Interpol Offices in France. Domestically, Mr. Karavites provides protective security for the Secretary of State and visiting foreign dignitaries. He has also conducted passport and visa fraud investigations and been a member of Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs) in several major cities around the country. Additionally, Themistocles Karavites has served as a domestic investigator in the Department of State’s Washington Field Office, Project Coordination Branch, and Criminal Investigations Liaison branch.
