Tiffany E. Browne

Former Federal Government Drone Turned Freelance Journalist

After ten years in the federal government, I said goodbye to my job with the Administration for Children & Families but not before beginning my journey as a journalist.

I started in journalism on the campus of Howard University. In 2000 I became a staff writer with the award winning campus newspaper The Hilltop. With The Hilltop published once a week, I was a part of a small group involved in expanding its publishing frequency to twice a week. Because of our efforts & those after us, The Hilltop currently is a daily publication.

In 2001, immediately after Sept. 11, I interned with the National Journalism Center that also tied into an internship with a local newspaper, The Common Denominator. Back on Howard's campus, I was a staff writer & rotating editor for Black College View.com; later renamed Howard University News Service. In 2009 I was asked to join a team comprised of Howard's School of Communications students & professors in launching 101, a lifestyle magazine for the college student.

I've freelanced for the Congressional Black Caucus (ALC 2006), SoulBounce.com, NNPA Newswire & The Washington City Paper. Most recently I was published on Loop 21.com. A full listing of my work can be found on my blog; Musings East of the Anacostia River.

If you see the name Mahoganie Jade Browne, it's me. As a creative writer I have been published under this name; specifically in the anthology Surfacing: Phenomenal Women on Passion, Politics and Purpose (Outskirts 2006). I'm due to be featured in another anthology coming in 2012.

I'm a graduate of Howard University with a BA in Journalism. As a native resident to D.C. I'm fascinated by how much my city is changing. I'm passionate about bringing some of the issues & faces of local D.C to the national level. Email Me.
