Wayne Shammel

An attorney and consultant based out of Roseburg, Oregon, Wayne Shammel served as the general counsel of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians for almost 20 years. During his time as the tribe’s general counsel, he had a variety of duties, ranging from advising leadership and management on strategies and implementation to leading corporate and governmental legal initiatives. Wayne Shammel also was involved in complex negotiations regarding critical business contracts and government legislation.

Dedicated to serving his community and others, Mr. Shammel is a volunteer and board member with the Douglas County Low Cost Veterinary Clinic and a member of the international volunteer organization Optimist International. A juris doctor graduate of Harvard Law School, Wayne Shammel has served as a pro bono volunteer of the Native American Rights Fund.

A Flathead tribal member, he fishes and hunts using treaty hunting rights in Montana. Additionally, he enjoys fishing along the North American coast from Alaska to Mexico.
