Maggie McAdams

Southern New Jersey

Maggie McAdams is a single, working mom living in a house full of special needs. Aside from her own Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes, major depressive disorder, and general anxiety disorder, Maggie is the primary caregiver for her oldest old son with ADHD and associated education dysfunction, and her youngest son with cerebral palsy (spastic quadriplegia, chronic static encephalopathy) and epilepsy. Maggie is a part-time student by night, preparing to (finally) complete her bachelor's degree in Human Services. By day, she works for a local community college, leading the school's alumni association, and supporting the goals and visions of the school's foundation. As a part of her studies in human services, Maggie spends a significant amount of time researching mental health issues and awareness and spreading the word of her findings and personal struggles. She also advocates for and spreads awareness of special needs. When she's not doing the day-to-day work, mom, student, caregiver, advocate, IEP Team Member, etc. thing, she uses what little time she has left over to write about anything and everything. She has been freelance writing since 2004 and writing for employers since 2000.
