Dr. Aaron Bruce, was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. He serves as the Chief Diversity Officer at San Diego State University, where he focuses on policy development, strategic planning, campus-wide social justice, diversity and inclusion. Prior working in the Office of the President at SDSU, he was the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Rhode Island College. He is an active member of the National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE), President of the Southern California Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (SCADOHE) and is an International Multicultural Institute certified diversity trainer. Dr. Bruce has facilitated numerous professional development seminars and held management positions in Latin America and Africa. His international interest led him to service projects and research on management strategies, public health and education in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, and Kenya. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Michigan State University where he also earned a certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He has an International MBA from US International University. Dr. Bruce received his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island Joint Doctoral Program in Education. He is the first African American male to hold such a distinction. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and lives by the motto “awake the sleep, protect the weak, and guide the strong”.
