Ajay is an advocate for social change and community empowerment. He is currently the Quality Leader, Communications and Engagement for the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council; he's interested in bringing social movement theory and action to the healthcare system in Canada. 

 

Over the last several years Ajay has co-founded and continues to co-lead many movement based organizations including:

  1. Coop Culture: a platform for enriching the dialogue on multiculturalism 
  2. Rangi Changi Roots: a non-profit society seeking to bridge the multicultural communities and the green movement
  3. East Of Main: a site sharing community stories and events from the diverse area of East Vancouver 
  4. Bee Vancity: an event listing guide which promotes local, eco, social events around Vancouver (partnership with the Vancouver Observer).

He was also a co-founder of Bridge to a Cool Planet - a coalition of over 30 multicultural, green and social justice groups which in 2009 hosted the world's largest 350.org Climate Action Day with over 10,000+ attendees.

Ajay was acknowledged for his commitment and passion for engaging diverse communities as one of Canada's top five volunteers in CBC's Champions of Change contest in 2010 and as the UBC Dean of Science Ambassador in 2001. He has spoken on his life and work in front of many audiences including TEDx.

He sits on the Climate Leadership Council of the David Suzuki Foundation and is on the Board of Directors for GoBeyond and LeadNow.ca. He has been a judge for the BC Hydro 2011 Invent the Future contest and the Vancouver Foundation Generation Green Awards. Academically he holds a Masters in Health Administration from UBC and is currently pursuing his PhD in health policy.
