Alan Cameros

Along with his wife, Nancy, Alan Cameros has accumulated an impressive collection of contemporary Southwestern ceramics. Currently on display at the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, Nancy and Alan Cameros’ collection features rare pieces by such artistic legends as Serafina Tafoya, Margaret Tafoya, Nathan Youngblood, Nancy Youngblood, and others. In August 2010, Alan Cameros spoke of the significance of the pieces at the Memorial Art Gallery. Past exhibitions held by Nancy and Alan Cameros include a term at the Corning, New York-based Rockwell Museum of Western Art from 2007 to 2008. At present, Alan Cameros acts as a Fellow at the Corning Museum of Glass and the Memorial Art Gallery. A longtime contributor to the Memorial Art Gallery, Alan Cameros has funded numerous exhibitions of visual arts, performances, and lecture series over the years. In the 1980s, Alan Cameros sponsored the “Striving for a Just Society” Cameros Family Lecture Series, which brought Jimmy Carter, David Broder, Herbert York, Jean Kirkpatrick, and other figures to the University of Rochester campus. More recently, Nancy and Alan Cameros provided funding to the Rochester Arts & Lectures Series, scheduling writer Luis Alberto Urrea to speak to Rochester audiences in March 2011. Aside from his contributions to the arts and other philanthropic endeavors, Alan Cameros serves as Chief Executive Officer at General Home Furnishings, Inc. in Rochester, New York.
