Alan Margherio MD

An ophthalmologist, Alan Margherio, MD, presently serves the Department of Surgery at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine as a clinical assistant professor. He also affiliates with a number of local hospitals, including Spectrum Health and St. Mary’s Health Care in Grand Rapids and Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon. Recently, Alan Margherio, MD, worked as principal investigator for a study focusing on the safety of a certain ophthalmic solution used to treat age-related macular degeneration. The study represents one among many he has participated in over the course of his medical career.

A physician engaged with his wider professional community, Dr. Alan Margherio belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and several other associations. Further, he holds board certification with the American Board of Ophthalmology.

In recent years, Dr. Alan Margherio co-authored “Revised Macular Holes and Epitretinal Macular Membranes” in Duane’s Clinical Ophthalmology. His research has also appeared in the journals Retina and Archives of Ophthalmology.
