After 20 years in the classroom, where I won several awards for innovation and excellence, I joined the Geographical Association in 2008 as Secondary Curriculum Development Leader. I ran online and face-to-face networks, wrote books, resources and journal articles, supported teachers in curriculum design and pedagogical development, kept colleagues up to date with web tools and technology in education. I led around 150 CPD sessions in the UK & Europe since 2008, with both students and teachers. I managed a number of projects funded by the Action Plan for Geography (2006-11), particularly the Young People's Geography project. From September 1st 2011, I became a freelance author, geographer and trainer. I have recently completed work for Google, BBC, Harper Collins, Twig Science, Badger Publishing and the Royal Geographical Society.
I'm a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society & a Chartered Geographer (Teacher)
I'm a founder member of the Geography Collective: creators of the Mission:Explore books and iPhone app, and Discover:Explore. We completed projects for the National Geographic Education team and the Cultural Olympiad. Mission:Explore was named as a Hay Festival / National Trust Outdoors Book of the Year 2011, and was runner-up in the Educational Writers' Award 2012. It won a GA Silver Award in 2012.
I'm available for CPD, consultancy and writing work on all things related to curriculum, edtech, networking, GIS, creativity and teaching and learning. Please get in touch on the link below.
