Alexandra Acker-Lyons

Over the past 10 years, Alexandra Acker-Lyons has worked for candidates and campaigns, party committees, and progressive organizations, with an emphasis on youth politics. She was recently honored with the 40 Under 40 National Advocacy Award from the New Leaders Council.

Alexandra is the author of The Political Ladder: Insider Tips on Getting a Job in Politics, published in 2012. She is a recognized political commentator and appears regularly on CNN, Fox News, and in numerous national print publications.

Currently, Alexandra is the Director of the Youth Engagement Fund, a collaborative project of the Democracy Alliance and civic engagement foundations. She is President and Founder of AL Advising, with clients including Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, Maria Shriver’s Open Field Foundation, and the Rappaport Family Foundation. She also travels internationally as a trainer for the National Democratic Institute.

Alexandra served as Executive Director of Democratic GAIN, the professional association for political operatives from 2009-2010, and as Executive Director of the Young Democrats of America during the historic 2008 election cycle. Other political work includes the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY), and the John Kerry for President campaign, where she was National Youth Outreach Director.

Alexandra also managed the National Campaign for Fair Elections at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and served as Campus Outreach Manager for Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Alexandra currently serves on the Board of the Bus Federation, Democratic GAIN, and New Leaders Council.

Alexandra graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a B.A. in political science. She is a native of Nyack, NY, has lived in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA and now lives in Palo Alto, CA with her husband and two cats.
