Alex Ashman
ENT Surgeon in England
I’m an ENT Surgeon in the south of England. I have interests in subspecialty rhinology, medical education, leadership, academic writing, and service improvement.
My undergraduate education was at UCL Medical School, where I also obtained a BSc with First Class Honours in Medical Sciences with Medical Physics and Bioengineering. I undertook Foundation Training in Bedford and Cambridge, Core Surgical Training and ENT Clinical Fellow experience in Bristol, and Higher Surgical Training in Oxford and the Thames Valley.
I have attended several subspecialty craft courses including the Manchester Sinus Workshop, UCL Sinus Surgery Course, European Rhinoplasty Course, and 4 days of practical courses locally in the Thames Valley region.
I am a co-founder of the Oxford Head & Neck Trauma Course, and received an ENT UK Rowena Ryan Award for this work. I have acted as faculty for the Trauma Course, the Dundee FRCS viva course, and the WENTS UK Leadership Course. I am currently undertaking a PGCert in Medical Education with Cardiff University.
I completed the RCS England Emerging Leaders Programme in 2024. I have had committee roles with WENTS UK, RCS England PRiSM, and the BMA EDI Advisory Group. I undertook the role of STC Trainee Rep 2024-25. I represented the Oxford region at BMA ARM in 2024. I was AOT ENT Treasurer 2019-2021.
I have multiple publications in peer-reviewed ENT journals, including systematic reviews regarding ENT procedures. I have undertaken impactful audit and quality improvement work which has resulted in reduced bed stays for patients with acute sore throat conditions, and in reduced new:follow-up ratios for patients with acute ear infections.
