Andrew Allen is an educator, pianist, and composer living in Tallahassee. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 2011 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies. Andrew spent 4 years after graduating to focus on education and composition. In 2015, Andrew returned to the University of South Florida for a Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano Performance. He completed his studies at USF in 2017 and moved to Tallahassee soon after.

Andrew has been teaching for 12 years. He’s been a high school band director, private instructor, clinician, curriculum design consultant, and ensemble director. Andrew has taught students at every age, skill, and school level. His most recent work with the University of South Florida included an ensemble director position as the head of the USF Honors College Jazz Band. Andrew is also the Composition Chair and Commissioned Composer Chair for the Florida State Music Teachers Association.

Andrew has been a professional pianist for over decade and is currently signed with Coverville Records. Andrew has 5 major releases with Coverville, including his most recent album JazzNESs: A NES Classic Jazz Tribute. His music is a mixture of pop/geek culture mixed with straight-ahead Jazz. Andrew has officially licensed music with Star Wars, Nintendo, Star Trek, and MARVEL. Andrew has also performed around the world, including performances at the Dusseldorf Jazz Festival, Utah Comic-Con, Jewel of The Ridge Jazz Festival, Denver Comic-Con, Atlanta Dragon-Con, Comic-Con Florida, and Star Trek: Las Vegas.

Andrew is also currently a syndicated composer with Clear Channel Communications, CBSi, and Discovery. His music has been featured on NPR and many FM Jazz radio stations around the country. Andrew has had the pleasure to write music for many different mediums, including compositions for film, television, advertising, podcasting, and video games.

Andrew’s teaching philosophy is simple: educate students to love and appreciate music. Andrew’s area of expertise in composition and curriculum design will help him gauge student’s interest and develop a unique lesson plan to better serve the student’s goals. He will also utilize technology and theory to help students better understand how music is created. Andrew specializes in traditional in-person lessons as well as Skype/Facetime lessons.

Andrew’s goal is to help students realize their full potential as pianists, composers, and young musicians.
