I was born in a pink house on stilts over the Northern Marin marshlands. When I could walk, we abandoned the little pink house and moved to Petaluma. My parents were young and we rocked out every night. Talking Heads, B-52's, Willie Nelson, and a whole lot of whatever was on MTV. I re-brushed the duck blind and went ghost shrimping and clamming with my Dad. I spent hours in the kitchen with my Mom. I had a banner childhood and learned to love food and music.
I rebelled against my rock-n-roll Dad and country Mama by majoring in classical voice and running after an opera career for the first 26 years of my life. I did a lot of singing in a lot of places. I was based in LA for 10 incredibly long years. Castles and ballgowns and 1099 forms and auditions and headshots and maestros and recitals and abject poverty. It was fun. It was soul-crushing.
I got tired and retired after I became a MASTER OF MUSIC. That is in all caps because I worked hard for it, and as useless as it is, I'm proud that I saw it through. After finishing my MASTER OF MUSIC in Southern California I moved back to my beloved Petaluma so I could work in the food industry. I got a job babysitting the sales staff at a seafood company and quickly fell back in love with the ocean. I eventually became the Quality Control Manager of this little seafood company and made a habit out of killing Listeria and banishing e. coli.
I had the good fortune of attending Eat Retreat, a gathering of thirty or so like-minded foodies, whose passion and drive led me to form Siren SeaSA. Siren sources sustainably harvested local seafood and gets it to the beautiful people who appreciate that sort of thing. I have the good fortune of being married to Tobias Barr. In October 2012 we welcomed our sweet chunk of a baby, Theo Barr. He's pretty much the best. I still love to unleash on unsuspecting microphones and vocally flirt with string quartets.
You should join Siren SeaSA and buy goodies from SIren Fish Co. but no, I won't sing for you when you pick up your fish.
