An executive in the legal industry, Art Gurwitz contributes to the philanthropic efforts of Concern Worldwide U.S., Inc., a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in need, as a member of its U.S. Board of Directors. Art Gurwitz served as Vice Chair of the organization’s 2012 Seeds of Hope Annual Award Dinner and as a member of the Women of Concern Luncheon Committee for its 2010 Annual Awards Luncheon, “A Celebration of the Lives of Women and Children Worldwide.” He has also traveled to Haiti to participate in earthquake relief efforts in connection with the organization.

In his professional life, Arthur Gurwitz directs operations at the global law firm Proskauer as Chief Operating Officer. Proskauer provides legal services and representation in a number of areas, including mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, commercial litigation, corporate finance, private equity fund formation and real estate transactions. Based out of its New York City headquarters, Arthur Gurwitz helps oversee the nearly 140-year-old law firm’s expansion efforts in the U.S. and worldwide.

A certified public accountant, Art Gurwitz served in executive positions at several other law firms before joining Proskauer, including Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, Dewey Ballantine LLP, and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. In addition, Art Gurwitz is the former head of the International Executive Directors Forum and the former General Manager and Vice President of Finance and Administration for Newsweek International.

Art Gurwitz wrote the book The Chief Operating Officer: Managing a Law Firm in Challenging Times, published by Thomson Reuters, Westlaw. An alumnus of The City University of New York, he earned his B.S. from Lehman College and his M.B.A. from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.
