These are the topics that have fascinated me for years and that I continue to explore:

  • Simplifying and balancing family life
  • Embracing confidence and trusting yourself
  • Organizing and decluttering your home
  • Managing your time and attention
  • Enlarging your definition of "education"
  • Travel with kids
  • Taking "experts" with a grain of salt

I'm the creator of Parent Hacks -- a site crammed with forehead-smackingly smart tips for life + kids. Parent Hacks was one of Real Simple magazine's three choices for "best parenting and family blog" and Babble deemed it "#1 Most Useful" of its Top 100 Mom Blogs three times.

I'm the author, with Christine Koh, of Minimalist Parenting: Enjoy Modern Family Life More by Doing Less. Cool Mom Picks called Minimalist Parenting "the must-have book of the year. And hopefully every year."

I'm an Internet and social media native (before I was a parent I wrote books about Web publishing and I've had my own domain name since the early 90s). I love to share the good work and ideas of parents, creators, artists, writers and other smart, positive people.

I believe, without apology or irony, that the world is full of goodness. I do my best to share that message every day.

I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband, fourteen year-old son, and ten year-old daughter.
