Alex Shimrey

I am Alex Shimray, a professional tattoo artist from the Naga Tangkhul community, born in Ukhrul district of Manipur and brought up in Dimapur, Nagaland. My fascination with tattoos began during my school days, when I became curious about the art, creativity, and personal expression behind body ink. What started as a deep interest gradually became my passion and profession, shaping my journey into the world of tattoo artistry.

My professional journey took a significant step forward in 2003 when I began exploring tattooing in Pune, where I acquired my first tattoo machines and started practising the craft. I spent around four years working as a freelance tattoo artist in Koregaon Park before moving to Delhi in 2007. After gaining experience through my own studio venture, I joined Devil'z Tattooz in April 2011, where I continued developing my artistic skills and professional approach.

I specialize in colour tattoos, and I enjoy combining contemporary tattoo styles with traditional influences. My Naga heritage has played an important role in shaping my artistic identity, as tattooing holds cultural significance in the history of my community. I aim to express this connection through my work while exploring modern techniques and creative possibilities.

For me, tattooing is much more than applying ink to the skin. It is about understanding people, listening to their stories, and transforming their ideas and personalities into meaningful artwork. I take inspiration from my clients, their individual experiences, and the diverse world of tattoo art. My goal is to create distinctive tattoos that reflect personal identity while continuing to grow as a contemporary Naga tattoo artist. I believe that passion, patience, creativity, and dedication are essential to developing my craft and creating art that people can carry with pride.
