My name is Ashley Janette Carter. I am a freshman at North Carolina Central University. I am from Greensboro NC , but I now reside in Hamlet NC. I grew up in a family where abuse, drugs and violence was a major issue. I was taken away from my mother on my birthday, August 20th at the age of 7, due to her abuse and drug addiction. After the separation and 23 foster homes later, I enrolled in a dance academy as an outlet to help me with cope with separation issues. A year later, I was adopted by a wonderful family who raised me into the young lady I am today.

I am the first in my family to graduate high school and go off to college. When I first came to NCCU I wanted to pursue a degree in nursing. As I completed my first semester I had a change of heart and decided to obtain a degree in Pharmaceutical Science and become a pharmacist. I ended my first semester at NCCU with a 3.0. “Never let your past define your future” I feel as if this quote describes me well because through everything I have been through I have manage to overcome my trial and tribulations and succeed.
