Manny Hernandez

Berkeley, CA

Manny is an internationally recognized health advocate who has lived with diabetes since 2002. He brings passion and commitment into everything he does, whether it involves transforming a 50-person team making Pampers in Venezuela into one of the best performing production lines in the world for P&G; or mobilizing the diabetes community around issues that demand our energy and attention, which has been at the core of what he has done in the past seven years.

He's had the opportunity to lead dozens of projects, and managed a variety of software products. His Electrical Engineering background (with an M.Eng. from Cornell University) coupled with his approach to working with people has helped him build bridges between the technical and business sides.

Between 2007 and 2015, Manny combined all his passions at Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF), a nonprofit home for life-saving programs that have touched the lives of millions with diabetes, which he co-founded. Under his leadership, DHF became a global leader in diabetes social media, and an influential group in diabetes advocacy with a budget over $1 million. Manny developed lasting partnerships between DHF and diabetes stakeholders in industry, the nonprofit sector, and government. Jan. 15, 2015 Manny stepped down as president of DHF, where he will continue to be involved until April 30, 2015.

Starting May 1, 2015, he will join a Bay Area Digital Health start-up in the diabetes space.

He's published books on social media and Health 2.0, delivered keynotes around the world, and been interviewed by NY Times, NPR, Fox News Health, Bloomberg News, Univision, and others. In 2013, WebMD recognized him as one of 6 Health Heroes.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he came to the US in 2000. He lives in the Bay Area with his wife and artist Andreina Davila, his son Santiago, and Lucas, their poodle.
