Born to parents with both Dutch and German ancestry and hailing from a small historic town on the banks of the Rhine river, I have always tried to see the world around me with open eyes and an open mind. Soon, this led me to realizing two important aspects of my life:

• I wasn't cut out to idly stand by while people next to me suffer from accidents and disasters;
• It takes all of us if we want to protect the tiny blue marble that we live on.

Following my call, I have been an expert for sustainability and international humanitarian affairs for more than 30 years. Today, I divide my time between promoting those two causes and exploring Northern Europe or the Mediterranean.
