Barry Levet

Dr. Barry Levet commands an impressive professional track record. An experienced cardiothoracic surgeon, he currently works with the Schumacher Group, an emergency management company headquartered in Lafayette, Louisiana. He has held his current position since 2006. In addition to his ongoing practice as a physician, Dr. Levet has also delivered a variety of professional presentations and has co-authored a number of publications over the course of his career. A Louisiana native, he continues to live and work in his home state. Dr. Barry Levet maintains a variety of professional affiliations. Active with both the Louisiana State Medical Society and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons since 2002, he also belongs to the American Medical Association (AMA) and has served on the AMA’s Drug Education Task Force. Between 2003 and 2004, Dr. Levet held a post on the Board of Directors for MedCamps of Louisiana and as Chairman of the Glenwood Regional Center Medical Records Department. Previously, he held memberships in the Ouachita Medical Society from 2002 to 2004 and the Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity. Dr. Barry Levet graduated from Tulane University in 1986 with a BS in Psychology. Completing his undergraduate work with honors, he proceeded to earn an MD through the Tulane University School of Medicine. Following this, Dr. Levet engaged in a flexible internship with Tulane before transitioning to an orthopedic residency. He subsequently completed both a general surgery residency and a cardiothoracic fellowship. Dr. Levet has also pursued cardiovascular research in New Orleans and acted as a primary care physician on an Indian reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Recognized for his exceptional work in the study of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Levet boasts a Rufus H. Alldredge Award.
