FogoAzul NYC is New York City's home grown band! Lovingly known as Gotham's Heartbeat, we are part of a larger global community music and arts project called Grooversity. We are a Brazilian Drumline playing the music typically heard in Carnival in Salvador de Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and many other areas of Brazil. All of our members are women! FogoAzul NYC is formerly known as Batala NYC. We've rebranded for a desire for musical integrity, artistic liberty, and change! With it's infectious rhythms and dance we are carrying on the legacy of Batala NYC that Stacy Kovacs had started in 2012.
All women, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming folks are invited to join FogoAzul NYC regardless of any music or dance experience. We are currently recruiting!
