Ben Akers

Born Benjamin Daniel Robert Akers in the winter of 1975 in Lewisham, South London, England. Son of a Psychotherapist. Grandson of Publicans. Brother of a 'Nice' activist.

Ben (known as Bakers) became obsessed with advertising at the age of 14, when he read an article by Sir John Hegarty and aimed one day to work for him.

15 years later, via Buckingham Chiltern University, 20:20 London, HHCL (and a few others) he was working at BBH, down the hall from Sir John.

After 3 great years at BBH, he jumped on a plane and headed for Sydney to join the Droga5 start up. There he's got Vanilla Ice to say "Sorry" for his Musical Wrongs for Virgin mobile. Set an (unofficial) tweeting World Record for V Australia with 4320 LA - And invented the "Koala Box" for Aussie cricketers via Puma and Freddy Flintoff. From there he moved to GPY&R to co-create the Vinnies "Signed Finds" Campaign – which has since won the most effective campaign of the year at the 2012 Effies.

In Ocotber 2011 he joined the revolution at Republic of Everyone. Determine to do some good with his skills.

Since then he's worked on numerous amazing campaigns including MSF.TV. A month long live online TV channel that went behind the scenes of the humanitarian aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières – showing how they "go where others don't."

He's won all the major coloured Pencils and Lions in the world of advertising and named in Australian Creative's " 2013 Power Top 20" - but who cares about awards when you're saving the world. :)
