Benilton Carvalho develops statistical methodologies and high-performance computational tools for the analysis of high-throughput genomic data and involved with the development of several BioConductor ("open-source software framework that assists statisticians and biologists working in bioinformatics") packages, which involve extensive use of R, C and SQL.
Since January/2013, he is based at UNICAMP (Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil), leading the Bioinformatics Laboratory at the Department of Medical Genetics.
