Born and raised in the Philippines, I'm the author of Displaying Filipinos: Photography and Colonialism in Early 20th-Century Philippines (University of the Philippines Press, 1995) and Pinoy Capital: The Filipino Nation in Daly City (Temple University Press, 2009). I have a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Cornell University and I've taught Asian American Studies and Anthropology at different universities in the San Francisco Bay Area. My fiction and creative nonfiction can be found at Tin House online, Joyland, SmokeLong Quarterly, Atticus Review, and elsewhere. I also blog occasionally at The Wily Filipino.

I wear a different hat for my day job as a senior manager in product management and software application development; see my LinkedIn profile for details. I write about the intersection of product management, storytelling, and anthropology on Medium.
