Joy Cox
Student and Teacher in New Jersey
Hi! My name is Joy Cox. I am a current doctoral student in the department of Communication at Rutgers University, studying stigma and identity management. My area of interest revolves around the body positive movement, women, and fat bodies. I am particularly interested in how fat women manage their identities when confronted with stigma and/or stigmatizing messages. Additionally, I have found that the body positive movement lends itself well to my research as I tend to find a diverse set of responses to weight stigma outside of the low self and body esteem context. My ultimate hope is to give fat women who view their bodies positively a voice that can be found in research journals, book chapters, and abroad, in and out of the Ivory towers. Thank you for stopping by!
