Kayla Borrego

Salt Lake City, UT

Hi there, my name is Kayla Borrego and I am a wellness professional, personal trainer, and video game enthusiast from Salt Lake City, Utah. My odd combination of passions led me to focus my studies on the worksite wellness practices of the video game industry. I believe that video games (yes, even the sit-down, controller-in-hand kind) can be part of any healthy lifestyle and I have set out to show the world how.

In 2012, I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Integrated Studies with emphases in Health Promotion, Nutrition, and Psychology, and I am set to graduate in 2013 with a Master’s in New Media Journalism. This unique combination of education and experience allows me to utilize new media technologies, such as social media channels, blogs, and videos, to promote wellness across the web.

In the fall of 2012, I created and distributed a survey for the video game industry that assessed their current worksite wellness practices. My biggest finding was that even though 80% of the respondents thought that stress management programs were important for the video game industry, none of them had a program available to them. My next step is to create and distribute custom stress management programs to the video game industry in order to create happier, healthier working environments.

Besides my research, I also work as a wellness coach, personal trainer, stress management presenter, and group fitness instructor. In my spare time, I (proudly) enjoy playing video games, running, skydiving, reading fantasy novels, and pretending that I know how to cosplay.
